What Causes Intermittent Ear Congestion?

My ear has been plugged off and on for over a month. Each morning my ear is plugged but as the day goes on my ear will slightly clear up (just a little), then the next day it starts over again. I went to Urgent Care to find out if my ear had wax buildup to which the provider said yes it was wax so he ordered a flush. That did not alleviate the issue. I had one whole week of a clear ear but then the next week it was plugged again. What could be causing this problem? Fluid? Wax? Urgent Care did not say there was an infection.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thank you for using HCM.

I understand your concern. In my opinion, the problem is still ear wax. It tends to recur and needs to be cleaned out regularly. It is also possible that it was not cleaned out completely and when there are ear wax residues there tends to be a build up faster that usual.
I advise you buy an ear syringe with a soft rubber bulb and do ear irrigation with warm water a couple of times. You will see wax residues coming out. Repeat a couple of times until your ear feels clear.
You can do this every time you feel your ear closing up or congested. Also make sure to maintain a good ear hygiene and never use foreign objects to clean your ears.

Wishing you all the best
