What Causes Inter Menstrual Bleeding While On Birth Control Pills?

I started to take birth control at the beginning of March. I normally get my period at the beginning of the month but my doctor had told me it was ok to start before my period if I wanted to. About 3 weeks into the birth control, I started my period. I was still on active pills so it confused me a little but I knew my body was adjusting so I didn t have too much concern. I normally bleed for only 3/4 days but this lasted an entire week. Then my boyfriend came into town and we had unprotected sex. We had sex everyday for 5 days. On the fifth day, on took birth control that night but it was the last day I took it. I thought it was fine because the next day he was flying back home and we wouldn t be seeing each other for a while. I didn t think about the fact that sperm can live for 5 - 7 days and after a couple days of not being on the pill, I was no longer safe. About 5 days later, I started to have some bleeding. It was extremely dark and way less than usual and I don t think there was anything but the blood. However it did last more than a day so I m not sure that it s implantation bleeding. Is it possible just breakthrough bleeding from stopping the pill? On top of that, my boyfriend broke up with me so I have not eaten more than crackers in days and am extremely nauseous in the mornings. Could this be morning sickness or just related to my stress? I guess my best option is to take a pregnancy test but I don t even know when the best time to take one is. I know they say when your missed period is but I don t know when that would be since I was on birth control and it messed up my schedule... and is what I had a period or something else? I also heard 3 weeks after conception but I really don t want to wait that long since I already have so much going on. I don t want the added stress. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I think you can be having a breakthrough bleeding. You can do a urine pregnancy test after 10 to 12 days after your last intercourse. If negative, you are not pregnant. Chances of pregnancy is less if you have taken the pills properly. Hope it helps.
