What Causes Intense Pain In The Hip And Groin Post Microdiscectomy?
I had a microdiscectomy 10 days ago . Post op I had groin and hip pain which was relieved with analgesia, it settled on it’s own within four days . I started simple exercise on day 8 post op as instructed by my physio ,since commencing these exercise the pain in my groin and hip has been excruciating , this is a dull ache and is worse when trying to get up from the sitting position and when trying to change position in bed . It throbs all the time with no relief no matter what position I am in . Is this pain normal is my question ?. I did have this kind of pain with the initial onset of my problems this took months to settle down.
Sometimes due to prone positioning, patient do have such pain after surgery. Also due to handling of nerves, similar pain can occur. Third reason is sacroiliac joint strain which is also very common after lower lumbar spine surgery. If pain is unbearable then you can get local infiltration at the most painful area.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Anuj Gupta,
Spine Surgeon
