My son had a traumatic blow to his ear while under water - with a little blood afterwards, some pain and pressure but not terrible and hearing loss. 2 hours later he was seen by a walk in clinic out of town and they said it already infected. Can it happen that fast? Said it was so inflamed they couldnt tell if it was torn or not. Couldn t the inflammation be from the trauma? Thanks
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have inflammation in ear which could be because of trauma and it could be preexisting infection. Infection is because of trauma to sinuses, otitis media, ear wax buid up and ear canal injury. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like hearing test , vitals , blood test , examination with otoscope and CT scan. For now apply warm dry compresses. Put Otogesic ear drops 2-3 times a day. take proper rest. Doctor may remove wax , prescribe antibiotics in case of infection , anti inflammatory , corticosteroid ear drops , recommend surgery and may refer you to dentist in case of TMJ related probelms .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
