What Causes Inflammation Around The Nail?

Hello I m 24 years old and a male. I am in relatively good health besides my finger nails both have severe inflammation around the nail folds and the actual finger nails are bright white with a red band at top. My blood work shows normal organ functions and doctors dismiss terrys nails cause my liver is normal. I use to heavily abide drugs and alchocol for three years but have been sober for two. Doctors have suggested auto immune due to inflammation around nail fold but I am more worried why my nails are bright white?! Any ideas?
