What Causes Inflammation And Faded Iris After Open Heart Surgery?

I had open heart surgery in May with some complications. My eyes have not been quite the same since. Both eyes have been inflamed for the past couple weeks and I have been unable to wear my contact lenses. Tonight I examined my eyes in a magnifying mirroe and was quite startled to find that the tops of both irises nave faded from my brown / hazel color to a milky white, in a partial moon shape...sort of like the moon shape of your finger nails as they grow out. My right one is more opaque white in that portion, but both have the faded portion. Is there a health concern with this issue? I do have a scheduled eye exam on the 25th but haven t seen an eye doctor for over 2 years.
