What Causes Indigestion Along With Stomach Cramps?

been having indigestion (kinda like intestinal cramps??) Not every day but maybe twice a week. Tried eating ..thinking that would calm it but it didn t. Took Tums and it helped very little. Now drinking Chamomile tea... that is helping a bit. Discomfort seems to be right at my waistline and kinda radiates my stomach area.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Possible causes of indigestion may include:
• Overeating or eating too quickly
• Fatty, greasy or spicy foods
• Too much caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, or carbonated beverages
• Smoking
• Anxiety
• Certain antibiotics, pain relievers, and iron supplements
• Digestive conditions like gastritis, peptic ulcers, celiac disease, gallstones, constipation, pancreatitis, stomach cancer, intestinal blockage

The following may help you feel better:
• Avoiding foods that trigger indigestion.
• Eating 5 or 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large meals.
• Reducing or eliminating the use of alcohol and caffeine.
• Avoiding certain pain relievers, NSAIDs.
• Controlling stress and anxiety.
• If feeling of acid reflux, take a proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole.
• If stomach cramps are serious, an anti-spasmodic pain drug like Spasfon may help.
• If symptoms persist after all these, you see the doctor for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
