What Causes Increased Heart Beats And Shortness Of Breath?

My heart seems to beat really fast and hard on exertion (not very hard, more light to moderate exertion) and I feel very short of breath recently, sometimes even just going up and down the stairs and once lying down in bed. What are possible causes? I m concerned about going to the doctor and nothing coming up, so I prefer not to get checked out.

Hi,

Since you have a history of increased heart beats associated with shortness of breath, it can be caused by some developing heart disease (CAD). (Asthma & COPD can be the differential diagnosis; it will be detected once you have an X-Ray Chest done, no worries).

Increased heart rate or Tachycardia ought to get treated at the earliest. Neglect can lead to complications like Stroke, Heart Attack. Sudden Cardiac Arrest & Death.

Visit ER, get physically examined, get CBC, X-Ray Chest, Urinalysis, Lipid profile with Blood Sugar(R), ECG, Echocardiography, Stress test, CT, MRI done. If the reports are not normal you may be asked to get Angiography (it's Invasive) & Holter test(Non-invasive) done.

Get evaluated, get treated. In the meantime, do regular exercises, take adequate sleep(stay away from computer, laptop's two hours before going to bed), stay away from addictions(alcohol/beer, etc.) if any.

Take boiled food (or food cooked in Olive Oil), berries, fruits, veggies & whole grain, no white flour. Cut on carbohydrates, red meat, junk or oily food.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
