Hashimoto disease is an autoimmune disease that means the immune system produces antibodies that attack the thyroid gland, causing a disability on production of thyroid hormones. It has genetic component, it affect more women than male. If you had been affected year before you detected hypothyroidism, yes it happen because Hashimoto symptoms are mild for the first time and similar to symptoms of other medical condition and also it has been shown appear at middle age women more commonly than in other age .
