What Causes Hoarseness While Taking Aleve And Zicam For Cold?

I have been sick for two days. I have been taking Aleve, Zicam for cold, Airborne, and cough drops. I woke up with severe hoarseness this morning. I washed my hair last night and now my throat doesn't feel good and feels like it is closing up. Don't know what to do for it. Can you help. Thanks. I am a female who is 71 years old.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on the symptoms that you have described, it is possible that you have a viral upper respiratory tract infection (common cold). This is one of the most common cause of hoarseness.

Treatment would consist of : (1) resting your voice as much as possible

(2)drink a lot of liquids

(3)the use of a humidifier would help with the hoarseness and the other viral symptoms

(4)If there is associated pain you can try a topical antiseptic/analgesic along with your aleve. Examples would be chloroseptic, bethadine oral solution, diflam.

I hope this helps
