What Causes Hives In Groin & Stomach?

This spring my 19 year old son has begun to experience hives on his groin, stomach, and arms, especially as he sleeps at night with windows open. He takes over the counter benadryl cold tablets and the hives go away within an hour. Any idea what may be causing this?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

As per your case history, your son is having urticaria.

My treatment advice is:
1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors for 2 months.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7 to 10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone or betamethasone taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
