What Causes High White Blood Cell Count In CBC?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...i am 33 yrs old. i have been feeling very dizzy and light headed since 1 week, i got my cbc done today and it shows a high white cell count 14.5, i have no temperature ,,,what could be the problem????

Hello and welcome to HCM,
A high leukocyte count can occur in a number of conditions.
Infections and leukemias are the most common causes of raised white blood cell count.
A white blood cell count of 14.5 is more suggestive of infection rather than leukemia.
Infection can be bacterial or viral.
In order to assess the type of infection, differential count needs to be done.
Thus, I suggest you to post the differential count to know the type of infection.
Leukemia are usually characterized by very high white blood cell counts, however, leukemia can occur with lower counts also.
