i am type 2 diabetic female for 14 years i am 27 yrs old i weigh 199lbs.i have always taken 2000mg metformin and 10mg of glipizide. I have recently changed doctors and she took away metformin and glipizide wich helped ne control my blood sugars very well during the day between 45-130 but my morning fasting has always been very high 150+ so she decided to put me on lantus 20units now my readings are 187-320 and my morning fastings are 230+ what should i do about this?
Dear Madam, Welcome to HCM. Did you mean you developed Type 2 Diabetes at 13 years of age? Is it type 2 diabetes or MODY? now coming to your query, Stopping glipizide and metformin was a big mistake. Addition of lantus is good to control fasting values are better controlled by lantus. But you cant expect to have a good control only with lantus. You would need glipizide and metformin. My advise please change your doctor to someone who knows how to manage Diabetes. Ideally speaking better control can be obtained by using glipizide, metformin along with low dose lantus at night. Hope my answer helps you! Dr.Riyaz Sheriff
