What Causes High Fever With Red Eyes?

My 3 year old has no symptoms other than a fever, red eyes, and he is less energetic than normal. I took him to the pediatrician today and they said he shows no signs of ear or throat infection. The nurse believes its something viral but nothing they could detect. They sent us home and told us to give it a few more days. I am so scared. None of our other chidlren have caught it. Its been a week. His fever ranges from 100.4 to 102.1, starting off with the low numbers and increasing as the day progresses. What could be wrong??

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If she is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active. You can treat fever with Paracetamol at 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly if fever is > 100F. Hope my answer was helpful for you.
