What Causes High Fever In A Toddler?

Hi, thanks, our 4 year old has had a feaver for 24 hrs and we took him to urgent care today (out doc isnt open or around on weekends) His fever has been between 100-104. Ibuprofen brings the feaver down. Urgent care said he has tonsilitest and prescribed augmenten and ubuteal (sp?) for decreased breathing. They didnt tell us when we should be really worried about the temp and take him to an er etc. 104 seems pretty high? Help please Mark

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

It will take 48-72 hours of antibiotics for fever to settle. Until then just continue Ibuprofen 2-3 times daily. If he is otherwise active and playful, we need not worry. Take him back only if fever persists beyond 72 hours, becomes very tired or develops recurrent vomiting.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
