What Causes High Fever, Backache And Headache?

My 17 year old son is currently in the ED with a 105 degree fever, backache and severe headache. Symptoms began yesterday and have been increasingly worse. He has been sent for a cat scan and urine test. They are also talking about a spinal tap. The doctors feel it is meningitis, just don t know which kind.

Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Your son is likely having CNS Infetion that could be due to viral, bacterial or tuberculous infection. Ct scan and lumbar punture will confirm the diagnosis. But if this does not comes out to be meningitis/encephalitis then his physician must rule out cerebral malaria, neurotyphoid and other systemic diseases like systemic viral illnesses and atypical infections like lyme diseases. Thorough history , complete physical examination and lab tests will help out.
Hope I have answered your question.
Wish your son a good health
