What Causes High Fever Along With Shallow Breathing While On Amoxicillin?

Last week my daughter had a mild cold. Yesterday she was diagnosed yesterday with a double ear infection, and is being treated with amoxycillin. Today her fever has gone up to 103.5. She seems alert when awake, and is eating okay (but not to her normal amount). She isn t complaining of any particular aches or pains, and her breathing is shallow. Do I need to seek further medical attention now, or should I wait until morning?

Hello,

As your daughter is suffering from high fever, she might be experiencing shallow breathing. There seems no separate reason for that. So it will be okay to wait till morning and not to rush to emergency room.

As the antibiotic prescribed will reach the optimum blood level, its efrects will start and the infection will resolve. It usually takes 24-48 hours for antibiotics to work so if the symptoms do not worsen, you can wait for 48 hours after treatment started.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic.

Best,
