What Causes High Blood Pressure After Taking Losartan?
My husband had been on Losartan Potassium-Hctz 100-25 Mg. His blood pressure was perfect. He was in the hospital last week and another dr changed him to Losartan 100 mg Tab LEG. Now his blood pressure is 200/98. What should we do? He has an appointment with his provider tomorrow.
Let me try to explain why your husband's blood pressure went up. Earlier he was using Losartan potassiumHctz which is a combination of losartan and hydrochlorothiazide ( also helps lower the blood pressure).
Now the other doctor has prescribed Losartan 100 only and discontinued hydrochlorothiazide.
So it is clear that losartan alone is not effective in lowering your husband's blood pressure.husband's blood pressure.
It has to be substantiated with other antihypertensive. I will suggest talking to your doctor to add hydrochlorothiazide to Losartan.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
