What Causes High C Reactive Protein And Platelet Count?

Husband experiencing extreme fatigue over past 2 months. Significant weight loss, and extreme loss of muscle. Lack of appetite. First doctor appt was on 9/15; we were thinking perhaps Lyme Disease. Tested negative. Numerous appts and blood work since then. Did Chest and abdomen xrays - ok. stool sample - ok. Urine test showed some kind of infection, although they haven t yet pinpointed the infection yet... But placed him on antibiotic. Met with Rheumatologist. Said if my husband was 80, he would have dismissed all high levels of the lab results to just the infection. But because of his age, 51, and the muscle/weight loss, and loss of appetite, he thinks there is something brewing . He ordered more blood work to check for muscle disease. If that comes back negative, wants a CAT scan of lungs. I wish I had lab work results in front of me but I don t, but please ask me any questions, I can probably remember. He had very high C Reactive Protein, Very High (Sedemintary?) showing signs of inflamation. Very high platelet count (he is a pack a day smoker). What questions do you have of me?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think he should be checked for essential thrombocytosis. It is a bone marrow disease. I recommend you to visit a haematologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
