What Causes High BP While On High Protein Diet?

I have recently begun a weight loss program through a local medical center. The diet is high protein and low carbohydrate. I take medication (verapamil) for high blood pressure but recently those blood pressure readings taken at home have been consistently elevated (150-160/100-110). The medical center weighs me and checks my blood pressure weekly. How high should my blood pressure be on a consistent basis before I go to see a doctor/urgent care? Thanks for your time.

Hello,

Verapamil lower more the heart frequency and very little the blood pressure. So you might need to change your medication for blood pressure. If I were you, I would go to the doctor and take the medications as soon as I can, because this blood pressure is high enough to go and see a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anila Skenderi
