What Causes Hiccups After Receiving A Cortisone Shot?
I am 78 years old. I had a cortisone injection on my hip joint yesterday. Since the injection I ve been having hiccups, on and off, and it is very disturbing. I haven t had hiccups for 40 some years as far as I can remember. Is it possible this is a side effect from the shot? This maybe a dumb question but I can think of doing anything different since the shot. Please help!

Cortisone shot does not cause hiccups. Drink plenty of water. If the hiccup does not subside in a few hours, please follow up with the emergency room. Given your age, it is important to get an EKG done with persistent hiccups to rule out coronary artery disease.
