What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding Along With Blood Clots?

my girl friend had a very light period (I would call it spotting) for about a day. It was a week early. it has been two days since that ended. She now started bleeding heavily with small clots. She says the blood is gushing and not like a normal period. What could be going on?

Hi welcome to Healthcare Magic.
Our body secretes anti- coagulants so that the menstrual blood does not clot while passing. Sometimes during heavy menses, blood flows faster giving no time for the anticoagulants to act. This is how clots are passed.
There are hormonal changes going on in oir body that can sometimes give rise to heavy bleeding, so if it happens once or twice it is normal. However, if it is occurring frequently then we need to get blood counts examined. For now I suggest we just wait and watch the next cycle.
Do write to me. Takecare.
Regards,
Dr. Anuja
