What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding?

I ve been bleeding (heavy period) for 12 days now and it so heavy i soaked 5 pads a day. Last June i had the same condition and my OB prescibed Hemanex tranexamic acid for 10 days 3 times a day but it did not help a lot. It took me 36 days before my period stopped. Now i had the same condition. I don t wanna take Hemanex again, there might be side effects for prolong used of this medicine. I also undergone transvaginal but no Myoma seen. My OB did nt explain of what was my condition or why i bleed so heavy.

Hello,

Abnormal, heavy, continuous bleeding has many causes including
a. Hormonal imbalance.
b. Myomas (fibroids).
c. Endometrial hyperplasia, or neoplasia (cancer) etcetera.
Moreover heavy and continuous bleeding causes anemia (iron deficiency anemia). You may get easy fatigue and tiredness. In the query, you didn't mention your age. Differential diagnosis and management vary with age. Please consult a proper gynecologist and should have an ultrasound, hormonal levels, iron studies.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Siddartha
