What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding?

I am a 48 year old woman. I have not had a period in about a year and a half. Thought I was post menopausal, but started my period yesterday. Since then I have gone through about 10 super plus tampons with absorb 12-15 grams coming up on 24 hours. There are blood clots on the tampons and when I wipe. Should I go to the er?

Hi, I think you are having a postmenopausal bleeding. Get a pelvic examination done by a gynecologist to rule out any cervical pathology. Get a ultrasound done to see the endometrial thickness. If it is more than 4 mm, you may need an endometrial biopsy to rule out endometrial carcinoma. You can take some medicines like Tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. Hope I have answered your question.
