What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding While On Birth Control Pills?
My daughter started taking birth control about 4 weeks ago, and she has had a heavy period for about a weeks and a hall now.. we have tried to reach her doctor/nurse without success. Will this get better after she gets more regulated on the pill? I am concerned. Should I take her to the ER? Is this something they would need to do an abrasion on?
Heavy bleeding and menstrual irregularities are a common wide effect, yet not a side effect that would warrant discontinuation of the pill. I would recommend a consultation with her doctor whenever he/she is available, and also the initiation of iron supplements following a check on her hemoglobin levels.
Best wishes.
