What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding After Prolonged Absence Of Periods?

Hi, I am 25 years old and have not had a period in over a year since I had my fourth child. I started bleeding yesterday so I assumed my period had just returned. Today I ve been cramping but I figured Mother Nature has just returned me my curse but I ve been bleeding a lot and going through several pads and tamps. I just want to know should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It may the return of your period but if you are sexually active then you may also need to consider a complication of pregnancy such as a miscarriage, unfortunately.

It may be best to be seen by your doctor for an assessment which would include physical examination and ultrasound.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
