What Causes Heartburn Followed By Dizziness And Headaches?
For the past few weeks I have been experiencing heartburn followed by dizziness and headaches. I had an upper GI done and was diagnosed with a hital hernia. My middle and lower esophagus was fine, but the upper part was biopsied. 35, 5'3 and 127lbs. Can the acid reflux be causing the headaches and dizziness? Currently taking Prilosec, took Dexilant (too many side effects).
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Dexilant is Dexlansoprazole and works the same way as other PPIs work but it is possible that this particular compound can cause you the problems and hence Prilosec that is Omeprazole can be better tolerated. Ans if so, please continue with it. Since you have hiatal hernia you may need a long term management and if the medical treatment fails may need a surgery. Also you have to take soft blad diets, small frequent diets. Liquid antacids every three hours. Control of stress and anxiety is also equally important. Dizziness and headache are known to occur in patients suffering from upper GI problems like gastritis, esophagitis and so on. Also see for the other causes that can co-exist and should be sought after by consulting your Doctor and going for any further management as needed.
