What Causes Heart Palpitations, Neck Vein Dilation With Throbbing And High BP?

Hi.Hi Mom sometimes suffers from increased heart beat which lasts from a few minutes to a few hours. That time a dilated vein can be seen on her neck and also she complains of a throbbing sensation in that vein. Her ECG and colour dopler report shows normal.Currently the doctor has given her Betaloc and Dilzem. She also takes medicine for high blood pressure.Recently she has complained about a flush in her ears and the doctor has stopped the dilzem but she again had the attack few days back lasting almost 2 hours.Kindly tell me your suggestion as we are very afraid and worried.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi,

Regarding your concern, I would explain that the flush in her ears does not seem to be related to any cardiac disorder. I would just recommenced checking thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction and an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring in order to investigate for possible cardiac arrhythmia (considering her irregular heartbeat).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka
