What Causes Heart Palpitations After Bone Marrow Harvesting For Foot Reconstruction?

My father-in-law is currently in the hospital. Yesterday he had surgery, they took some bone marrow from his hip and basically are constructing his foot. After he woke up there was some problems and through the night his heart was beating too fast and they can't get it to slow down so today they are talking about putting him back under. He also has diabetes. I am wondering why they would put him back under?

Hi,

Your father in law is a diabetic has a high chance of having an underlying heart disease which during the period of stress (bone marrow harvesting) may have been exacerbated.

Exact diagnosis can only be made after seeing the ECG of the increased heart rate.

I guess it is some abnormal arrhythmia because of which they might evaluate him further before going for foot reconstruction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
