Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Within the last 2 months, I ve been waking up at times with hearing loss, (feels like a plugged up ear) in either left or right ear but never both. For example, two weeks ago my I went to bed with my hearing intact. I woke up the next morning and my right ear was plugged. It goes away normally on its own in about three days. Now, I woke up and my left ear feels like its plugged 2 days ago. Seems to cycle - does go away without treatment. But each time this happens its when I sleep and wake up with it.
You want to know the cause of hearing loss since you have a history of hearing loss/plugged ears for two months; Stop using earphones of any type.
Avoid getting into swimming pools for a couple of days. Visit an ENT, get your ear examined, sometimes embedded 'Wax' may cause temporary hearing loss(you may need an ear wash done by an ENT).
If pathology or perforation is detected in your eardrums, you will be treated accordingly(by medications or surgery).
Other causes ca n be intake of Ototoxic medications, excessive noise exposure, viral infec tions or even Shingles. Get STD tests done to rule out STI. You may need antibiotics & antivirals.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
