I m 17 weeks pregnant and have been hearing my heart pounding in my ears for the past few weeks. It s mostly my right ear. Today its pounding in my ear and my left ear is burning. I m also having a slightly elevated blood pressure when i m in the doc s office. I see my obgyn on friday but should I go to my family practitioner today and get it checked out or should I just wait?
Most obstetricians do not have an otoscope (the machine to look in your ear) in their office, however, the "pounding" feeling you are having in your ears is probably caused by the same mechanism that causes pregnant women to have a "glow"... The total volume of your blood increases during pregnancy so you have more blood rushing to your head every time your heart beats. So you may feel your heart beat in the blood vessels of your head and neck, which can also produce headaches. I think it is safe to wait until you see your OB to talk to them but this is most likely just one of the many side effects of pregnancy! Hope this answers your question and good luck!
