What Causes Headaches And Vomiting While Recovering From A C-section Delivery?

Hi there, my baby s now 5 days old, my wife s undergone caesarian section, yesterday she experienced severe spinal headache & vomiting. As my boy was not able to have breastfed due to her headache & vomiting, we started lactogen1 from yesterday evening. So can we start breastfeeding to my baby again when his mother will go back home from clinic tomorrow after complete cure of her spinal headache? Will it be so late to regain his breastsucking habbit?

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Spinal headache is known to occur after a C-section under spinal anesthesia. There is no need to avoid breastfeeding in the presence of headache. The cause of vomiting needs to be investigated as vomiting is not that common in spinal anesthesia.

Immediately after a normal vaginal delivery a baby should be breastfed within 1/2 hour and within 4 hours in C-section. Try to give exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months rather than relying on formula feeds. The breastmilk immediately after delivery is rich in immunoglobulin and nutrients which are protective for the infant.

The spinal headache postdelivery can be reduced by taking plenty of oral fluids, lying flat for maximum period and taking acetaminophen tablets for severe pain. Take good rest and remain hydrated. Baby should be breastfed as early as possible.
