What Causes Headaches And Bruise On The Sides Of The Face After A Spinal Epidural Shot?

I recently had a spinal epidural. It resulted in a major spinal headache that has gone on for 34 days. They have tried all different pain meds, etc. For the last 7 days I ve been on Toradol and Butrans patch. Day before yesterday I had clear fluid pour out of my nose after I bent down, so now they have ordered and MRI for Friday but tonight I look like I have been punched in the face. I have bruising on the sides of my nose and dark dark circles under my eyes and I never have dark circles. Plus a little draining down my throat. They checked me earlier today and said there was no signs of a sinus or ear infection. Should I be concerned???

Hello,

You need to see a NEUROLOGIST and get an imaging study to verify the presence of what may be a CEREBROSPINAL FLUID LEAK. This is easily rectified with what are called AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD PATCHES.

If the ER docs are not recognizing this as a potential problem then, you need to ask your PMD for a referral to a NEUROLOGIST or ANESTHESIOLOGIST.

They can handle this sort of problem in literally a few minutes and your symptoms will resolve.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dariush Saghafi, Neurologist
