What Causes Headache Frequently?

I have been having migraines and other symptoms for years. It was typical for me to have headaches 13-15 days of the month with 7-8 days of debilitating ones. I was also cold all the time, especially before a migraine. It would be 82 degrees and I would be in a sweatsuit still freezing. I was eventually lucky enough to find a doctor that was able to help me. I was diagnosed with low progesteron during the post ovulatory phase of my cycle. I have been taking prometrium for a period of ten days after ovulation. I am also taking 50mg of amitriptoline nightly. It seems to have helped quite a bit, but I still am having headaches often - most of the time if I start to have migraine aura and am able to have a cup of coffee and 800 mg of ibuprofen I can keep the headaches in check. Sometimes that doesn t work and I get a full blown migraine. But now I only have 1-2 days of debilitating migraines per month. Unfortunately I can no longer see that doctor and new concerns have popped up. I quite frequently get patches of goose bumps on one or both arms. I have also having memory issues for the past couple of months, which is not like me at all. And now if I get cold, I get tingling in my hands. What is your advice for me? Should I be worried about a neurological problem?

Hi,

First of all, Progesterone hormone cannot be used alone for a long time. Because it can stimulate the cortex and affect the platelet functions. So you need to go to a Gynecologist to assess your hormone level and modify the hormone therapy you take. The use of Amitriptoline for a long time can cause memory problems because it has anticholinergic side effects.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dr/Mustafa, Neurologist
