What Causes Growing Goiter?

Hi, I'm Dolly in the Philippines, I have a growing small goiter after my third birth. According to the Doctor, it is because I have successive three pregnancies. I gave birth in 2004-2005-2006 then stopped. I had an annual medical check-up, accordingly, my T-4.. not so sure..what is it.. but they got blood samples then told me, I'm okay but I notice it's seems my goiter grew a little bit larger in a year. I have not taken any medicine nor any supplement. Would taking iodine supplement makes it better. My Mom take a CONCENERGY herb supplement for six months from Extra EXcel Int'l and her big goiter was gone. However, I'm not so sure if it would be same with me.

Good morning, Welcome to HCM. I have read your history. Your history suggest that you might have goitre due to iodine deficiency which is quite common in some areas.
If I were your treatng doctor ,
1) I would examine your goitre to see size nodules etc.
2) Do your blood tests , complete thyroid profile T3, T4, TSH.
TSH is very important. i dont know whether you have done it before.
3) Thyroid scan to see exact size and nodules and whether they need biopsy.
4) Anti TPO and Anti thyroglobulin antibodies to check for autoimmune disease.
I would suggest you to do the above mentioned investigations. In your case its most likely goitre due to iodine deficiency. After investigations if everything is ok , discuss with your doctor about iodine supplementation. If your goitre is still big after months of treatment or your have difficulty in swallowing or breathing, consult your doctor for further treatment options which can either be with medication to suppress thyroid or surgery. But at this astage you dont need either of them. I hope this will help you.
