What Causes Fungal Skin Infection In Spite Of Using Terbinafine?

I have a severly bad rash all over my body. My PCP told me it was a fungal rash, gave me a lotion to aply twice daily for ten days. The rash did not clear up or get better in any way, as a matter of fact it got worse and started to spread over more of my body. The DR then gave me another bottle of the same lotion to use for another ten days ( with the same results ). The rash continued to spread over 75% of my body, I Then went to the local Emergency Room. The DR there diagnosed it as a fungal skin infection (simular to the Athletes Feet fungus). That DR gave mean anti-fungal oral pill (TERBINAFINE 250 mg tablet) to be used once daily for another 10 days. And yet agian it did not improve my symtoms, it seemed to worsen the problem and spread much more rapidly over my body. It has even spread to my vaginal area and it not only itches it also hurts.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Fungal infections can be contagious and spread from one aspect of the body. It can take a few weeks for fungal infections to resolve particularly if widespread, on the skin up to 3 weeks in some cases.

In some cases, a bacterial infection can occur along with the fungal infection and antibiotics are needed as well.

A cream or lotion on its own would not be enough. It would need to be combined with a anti fungal tablet.
A different anti fungal tablet can be used if the terbinafine is not working for you.
It may need to be taken for 3 weeks and your doctor would need determine if an antibiotic is needed as well.

I hope this helps
