What Causes Fullness In Ear With Difficulty In Hearing?

My ears seem full. Others can hear me, however I cannot tell how loudly I am speaking. There is also noise in my ears. My PCP and ENT cannot find anything wrong in the ears. I have chiari I and 70 years old and have had migranes as long as I can remember, well into my teens

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The commonest reasons for fullness in ears with tinnitus and unable to assess loudness of your own voice, PCP and ENT can not find the reasons are as follows:
* Fixation of the small bones of middle ear
* Problem with cochlea like inflammation, blood supply problem by hypertension, atherosclerosis that develops by aging and so on
* Nerve problems known to occur with aging

Consult your ENT Surgeon again or go for second opinion of another ENT Surgeon and insist on the investigations like Audiometry, MRI for all ear structures, nerves and brain. Nerve tonic to be started. Hearing aid as required and go for the best possible machine. Further management as per the cause found. Maintain normal blood sugars, blood pressure if you are under treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
