What Causes Frequent Yellow Diarrhea After Removal Of Appendix?

I had my appendix out via laparoscopy on Sunday morning. I am home today, and back on solid food (sticking with BRAT diet and broth) I did have a few prunes this morning (Tuesday). Now I have yellow watery diarrhea (approx 10 episodes since this afternoon). Is this normal and when should I expect it to ease?

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yellow diarrhea after a laparoscopic appendectomy on normal diet indicates one of the following reasons:
• Antibiotic cover disturbs the bacterial flora of intestine and hence can cause diarrhea.
• Pelvic infection post any abdominal surgery can cause such a problem.
• This is definitely not normal.

I would advise you the following:
• Consult your operating surgeon for clinical evaluation.
• Addition of probiotics may help.
• You may need investigations of stool and blood; ultrasound of abdomen.
• All these things will lead to a proper diagnosis and a plan for management.
