What Causes Frequent Urination In A Child?

My 4 year old grandson has been having frequent urination & by frequent I mean every few minutes. I watch him all day & today was bad for him! Frequency does subside at times, & seems a little better after a BM. He does complain that it feels like he has to have a big BM, but it won t come out. The urge to go does subside at night. He has been tested for UTI & DM. Both negative. My daughter was told that he has a constipation problem & he has been taking Miralax, at first qd, he is now taking it tid. The problem has been going on for 2 weeks now. Along with the Miralax, prune juice & increased fiber have been added to his diet. The kid has been a good sport about it but is starting to cry & complain because he is tired of going potty all the time. He will be seeing his pediatrician again tomorrow. My question, is there something else that his Dr. should be checking for?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a urologist and get evaluated. The symptoms are suggestive of overactive bladder and detailed evaluation is required to make a diagnosis. A urodynamic study is needed to make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
