What Causes Frequent Twitching In Left Hand Thumb?

I am 12 weeks pregnant and for the past few days I have noticed that my thumb, on my left hand, has been twitching. It seems to occur more frequently after I have just used the same muscle which seems to be spasming. Should I be concerned or is this just something that happens?

Hello,

Based on the history given you seem to be suffering from a condition called carpel tunnel syndrome.

It is caused by a compressed nerve in the carpal tunnel, a narrow passage on the palm side of your wrist.

I advise you to consult your doctor for proper clinical assessment and treatment.

Meanwhile I advise you a night time wrist splinting that holds your wrist still while you sleep can help relieve nighttime symptoms.

If your work involves a cash register or keyboard, for instance, hit the keys softly. For prolonged handwriting, use a big pen with an over sized, soft grip adapter and free-flowing ink.

Take frequent breaks. Avoid bending your wrist all the way up or down.

Improve your posture as incorrect posture rolls shoulders forward, shortening your neck and shoulder muscles and compressing nerves in your neck. This can affect your wrists, fingers and hands.

Keep your hands warm, use fingerless gloves that keep your hands and wrists warm.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
