Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the last 3 days my 4 year old son has been getting nosebleeds. Tonight he has started vomiting and also has the symptoms of the cough/cold I am currently recovering from, which are a fever, cough and headaches. My main concern is the nosebleeds as they have been occurring regularly for the last year or two with no obvious cause. His doctor has told us they are nothing to be concerned about, without even looking at his nose. My son becomes quiet distressed each time his nose starts to bleed and I would really appreciate some advice on how we can minimize them. He is very big for his age - 125cm tall and 35kg.
First of all 35 kg for a 4 year old child is 10 kg overweight .and this excess fat in and arount the airways can cause obstruction to his breathing .This obstruction will reduce free flow of air through nose and make him prone to nasal congestion and bleeds --that will scare any child and more so the mother .Your son has to have an ENT exam ,to see if the inside of nose is crusted or the lining is damaged --if it is simple like this usually creams will be given to prevent dryness .the second is check out for allergies ,and also cause for his increased weight ,diet,.Also get a blood test to check his platlet count and hemoglobin to be on the safer side
