What Causes Frequent Headache Inspite Of Taking Vasograin For Migraine?

I am 28 year old female. I used to have half headache since age of 12 years as I remember. However, later in one examination with a doctor at the age of 21 yrs I got to know the symptoms are of Migraine. I was suggested with vasograin tablet. Since then, I started taking vasograin when I used to get Migrane. And I feel relaxed. However, since past couple of years I get headache every day and a times it lasts for more than a day. Now vasogrian is also not showing any effect. From past two year I have been consuming this table every day just to avoid this headache.I have really got addicted to this tablet with no cure from my headache. How is this going to affect on my health now? I really want to stop this tablet. Also, though I take care of my food habits, sleep time etc. I get headache every day. Pls suggest.

Hi

Thanks for sharing your concern here.

Vasograin is ergotamine, a medicine that can stop an attack of migraine from happening. However it is not a medicine that is to be taken on a daily basis to avoid migraine.

When you have frequent migraine attacks like the way you describe, you need to take certain specific medicines called prophylactic medicines that help in preventing a migraine attack. These medicines are usually propranolol, flunarizine. You can check with your physician and start taking these medication. You may also take another medication called sumatriptan whenever you have an attack of migraine and want to stop it immediately. This sumatriptan is not to be used daily.

Both the drugs are prescription medication and so I suggest you see your physician. If I were treating you I would give you propranolol daily and advise you to take sumatriptan whenever you feel you are likely to have an imminent migraine attack.

Hope this helps.
