Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. My daughter is 19 weeks old and from Sunday night (just gone) has had more frequent bowel movements than normal. Normal for my daughter is one movement a day/every other day. This has increased to at least 1-2 a day or on two occasions 3 times a day. Her temperature is bouncing around 36-37.9 and she seems ok within herself. However, earlier I noticed that the soft spot on her head is a little sunken. I had also administered saline drops in her nose whilst she was lying down as she has a bit of a cold and is quite nasely - this promptly made her choke a little and she vomited - in my opinion quite a lot. She has always been a fussy/sporadic eater (formula fed) but it seems within the last week she has a bowel movement after every feed (especially today). I am wondering if she is dehydrated and if there is anything we can do until taking her to the doctor tomorrow morning. So far today she has had 21 fl oz of milk (albeit some of that was brought up earlier. Thank you in advance.
If your baby is active, playful, feeding as usual and passing urine as usual (6-8 times a day), there is nothing to worry. A dehydrated child will be somewhat dull, thirsty, with dry mouth and eyes and passing urine less frequently than usual. Anyhow if you feels she is dehydrated, just give her ORS solution as she wants
