What Causes Foul Smelling Flatus And Constipation?

i have been experiencing FOUL smelling flatus and occasional constipation. The stool has been small narrow soft mushy like consistancy and dark colored x 3 weeks or more. On several occasions I have noticed a mucus like substance on the tissue paper after wiping. I have had a couple of ok bowel movements after using a suppository. I reported symptoms to my primary on last week in which he gave me a consult for a colonoscopy to purchase over the counter probiotics.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Foul smelling flatus, constipation along with mucus on wiping indicate that you have proctocolitis and needs a the preliminary course of an antibiotic, metronidazole and OTC probiotics as you have been advised by your Primary.
Also identify the foods and beverages that can cause enhancement of your symptoms and stop them altogether. What suit you the most can be known by your own observation.
If you do not get the complete resolution of symptoms within 5 days then you would need a preliminary ano-proctoscopy and colonoscopy once you get an appointment, may be a CT scan of the whole abdomen and tests of stool and blood.
Clinical evaluation by a Specialist and reports will give us a confirmed diagnosis to get a proper plan of management.
