What Causes Foul Odor From A Skin Scab On The Chest?

My husband has a history of cancer. He had a sarcoma removed from his right side 2 years ago. He has developed what seems like another one in his chest (right pectoral). That one has been present for some time, but the doctors do not seem concerned. They say it is just the skin hardening. For two days, there has been a foul odor coming from that area and we are not sure why or what it could mean.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Does your husband have diabetes? Patients with diabetes are more prone to develop infection of skin. It might be some infection like boil or folliculitis which has turned into abscess. Kindly consult a dermatologist who may send pus for culture and also take a biopsy if he/she suspects anything and want to rule out anything.

With antibiotics and local application cream and drainage of pus, it should heal in a couple of weeks.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
Dr Sanjay Kini
