What Causes Foam In The Stool Of A Baby?

Hello I was just changing my 2 1/2 week old baby and she kept producing lots of foaming poo, and this seems to be happening more when I lift her legs up to wipe... it is very foamy with lots of bubbles, and she seems very unhappy andher usual self?? She also seems to struggle to bring up wind and her sides seem very swollen/bloated around her belly region.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello! Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

I understand your concern. It seems like an infection. I suggest you to do a stool test. Meanwhile some advice that I can give you are:

1) Give your child frequent small meals, at least 6 times a day, while he or she is having diarrhea.
2) You can try an oral rehydration solution (ORS).
3) If your child eats solid foods try bland, starchy foods like strained Bananas, Applesauce, and Rice cereal until the diarrhea stops.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help.

Thank you for the query.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
