What Causes Fluttering Sensation In The Upper Abdomen?

I occaisionally have fluttering in the upper abdomen below the sternum. When it happens, I get light headed. Once it happened and the lightheadedness lasted a good while. I went to the ER and they found nothing wrong. The attacks are quite nerve wracking. I do have anxiety (havn t had an attack in years) and diverticulosis as well as GERD. I just had my labs done and everything is normal.

Hi,

I got your concerns, it is due to the gas formation which is causing fluttering and you also experience lightheadedness.

Your case history reveals you have GIT problems and anxiety. Anxiety often causes intestinal and stomach disturbances.

I suggest you relax, don't take the stress, reduce consumption of coffee and carbonated beverages, take fiber-based diet and take probiotic it will make your gut healthy. Take a tablet of Lansoprazole.

You can also report to the emergency room for diverticulitis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Soheel Hussain Zargar,
