Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had a pelvic ultrasound and fluid in my abdomen was discovered. I was being checked for possible bowel prolapse. This is a great concern for me because it sounds like it could be serious, Monday I am scheduled for an abdominal MRI. I have been taking Simvustatin for my cholerosterol if that might be a clue
The collection of fluid in the abdomen is called ascites. There are several causes of ascites with liver problems being the most common ones. Issues related to other organs like the pancreas, thyroid, kidney, heart, different tumors and infections, can also cause ascites.
It is good that you are having examinations soon. The MRI will help identify any problem with the liver, pancreas or other abdominal organs that can cause ascites.
Simvastatin can cause some liver damage but is not a common cause of ascites and I don't think is the cause of ascites in your case. Still, the examinations you are going to have will be able to determine the cause of it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zotaj Antoneta,
