What Causes Fluctuations In The Blood Sugar Levels While On Diamicron?
Hi, I have type 2 diabetes and on lantus but my sugars peak during the day. Seeing a family physician and diabetic nurse. I feel that an endocronologist is a better choice to stabilize my sugars. Sugars during the day are 8.7 and go up to 23 until I take 80 units of lantus before bedtime. My sugars were at a 5.4 on the diamicron and januvia mix but suddenly stopped working. High blood pressure, anemia, b12 deficiency, anxiety and depression medication. My body is unpredictable and feel I need an endocrinologist to sort it out
The Lantus is providing baseline cover of your blood sugar but you need to cover the meals during the day.
Persons progress from just using oral meds, to requiring insulin baseline to needing additional medication.
Your meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and any snacks) are not being covered by medication. Short-acting insulin needs to be added, the amount would vary according to what you use.
You would need to see a nutritionist so that you can learn to count carbs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
