Hello,
Thank you for using HCM.
Liver function tests should not be more than 3 times of the normal levels. Normal levels are generally within 40 Ui/dl and if the SGPT or SGOT are higher than 120 (3 times the maximal normal levels) than it is important, and your child needs tests to identify the cause of it. It is not important to just reduce the levels of SGOT and SGPT but to find the cause and treat it so it does not recur. Your child needs to be seen by a doctor and tests done. The doctor might recommend tests for Hepatitis (there are several kinds of hepatitis infection and testing for them might be needed), he might also repeat SGOT and SGPT and also check bilirubine. An ultrasound of the abdomen might be helpful also and a complete blood count. According to the results the doctor will decide on further tests if needed, diagnosis and treatment plan. if the child is taking any medication for any medical condition this is an important information because sometimes medications might cause liver damage and increase of the liver enzymes (SGOT, SGPT). Paracetamol is the most common over the counter medication that causes poisoning in children- this is something to consider also if there is a chance that your child might be taking paracetamol.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
